Make way for hip and trendy careerLocated in Seattle, Washington, New York Fashion Academy opens Summer Camp Program for children. Happening on July 16-20 and July 23-27, 2012, it consists of different techniques in dress making. Students are going to learn how to make wrap-around skirts and cover-ups for swimsuits. The program is a combination of fashion storyboards and illustrations. Children are taught about cutting the pattern and sewing. Applying designs such as ruffles, fringe, beads, lace and pleats are also included in the subject matter.

Aside from the Summer Camp, NYFA presents a comprehensive and relevant curriculum in fashion design. It is mainly created to relate in industry and business. It is regularly updated since fashion and trends change every now and then. The program reflects latest concepts, methods as well practices in the world of fashion.

Certificate Program in Design and Construction is offered by the institution. It runs for 18 months. Although it lopes for a short time, students are trained properly to grasp in-depth knowledge about fashion design. It lets students master the field through developing their skills in commercial fashion design production. A thesis project is required before they can finish the program and be awarded with a certificate.

The following topics are tackled:

  • Pattern Design: It comprises of pattern making, draping, drafting, sloper, pattern grading and garment duplication.
  • Illustration: It covers basic fashion illustration, flat sketch, fast draw and layout making.
  • Sewing/Construction: Fundamentals and techniques of this subject are taught to students.
  • Fashion History: NYFA provides clear and complete history in order for them to know where everything came from. It serves as the foundation of fashion design.
